SINGING AND VOICE
I specialize in voice development. During the 8 years that I lived with the communities of the Andes, in northwest Argentina, I explored the per-Hispanic songs of the Kolla culture. I have actively participated in the Open Program directed by Mario Biagini, in Jerzy Grotowski's Workcenter and in workshops directed by Tomas Richards with African roots songs with high vibratory power. In 2023 I explored polyphonic Georgian chants in Georgia. Caucasus, with the group Ilonis, Bassiani, and Diggori. I teach workshops on the voice exploring and developing resonance and projection, and the voice as vocal action for the theater scene. I published several notes about the voice in the Magazine of the National Theater Institute of Argentina.
María Sánchez meets François Benner (Roisner) at the AADK Residence in Blanca (Spain). A field of exploration opens. Her ancient song merges with the electronic sonorities created by Roisner, who, inspired by the images that the poems bring, weaves a mattress where Maria rests her voice.
Maria remembers the words of her teacher Grotowski: “I am not looking to find something new, but something forgotten. Bagualas and Vidales, Zambas and Coplas arose from the saved memory of my identity built in South America on my European blood, and they were placed, with humility and respect, in a position to dialogue with what is different”.
